It’s been rumoured for many years but now it seems we are getting close to being able to book Iceland Express flights to New York. It seems as though Iceland Express will start flying to New York from Reykjavik and offering connections to New York from it’s existing European network for example London, Copenhagen, Milan and Frankfurt (Hahn). The flights will begin in June 2010. More details at IcelandExpress.com
When looking at flights to New York now there are often “Saturday night rules” in play which means cheap fares are only available if the trip includes a Saturday night stay. So a three night trip to New York will only be cheap if it leaves on Thursday, Friday or Saturday. The airlines do this to segment business and leisure passengers.
The other thing to note with flights to the USA via Iceland is that there is a large seasonality at play. Fares in the summer are much higher than can be found in the winter (excluding Christmas and New Year when fares jump).
